Stutter is a queer coming of age story; an Australian gothic campus tale; a warped exploration of attraction and selfhood.

She was as beautiful as she was mysterious, and if that sounds pretentious, it’s because she was too. We knew that she lived on the top floor of the college, though nobody ever saw her climb the stairs. She wore off-white men’s shirts, wide-legged tweed pants, and the same pair of battered brown school shoes. Somehow she made it look unassuming: you’d only notice her passing by the flick of her long coat, which she wore even in summer, as she turned a corner and disappeared from sight.
